BY THE RIVER SHE LAY (BROWN) is a warmer, earthier expression of the original BY THE RIVER SHE LAY — grounded, sensual and connected to the natural world.

This version grew from my fascination with the contrast between flowing water and solid earth. Deep, warm russet and brown tones meet expressive blues, creating a sense of movement, warmth and natural rhythm.

I wanted the piece to feel earthy and alive — like sitting beside a river surrounded by warm rock, changing light and the constant movement of water.

There is something deeply grounding about being close to nature. The river keeps moving, the landscape stays steady, and for a moment you become part of that rhythm.

That feeling is at the heart of this artwork.

As with the original, BY THE RIVER SHE LAY (BROWN) is also about presence and letting go — allowing yourself to slow down, take a breath and simply exist within the moment.

I love the way this warmer palette changes the atmosphere of the piece. It has a little more depth and sensuality, making it particularly beautiful within interiors that embrace natural materials, rich textures and expressive colour.

At A2 size, it has a strong presence while retaining an intimate, organic quality. It can stand alone or sit beautifully within a collected interior alongside other artwork, textiles and objects.
