UNDER THE NIGHT SKY — Original Monoprint

UNDER THE NIGHT SKY grew from my fascination with the feeling of standing beneath a vast night sky — that quiet moment when everything seems to slow down and there is space to simply breathe, look and wonder.

I wanted this piece to evoke the mystery, depth and stillness of night rather than depict a literal sky. Layers of tonal colour and expressive marks build a sense of movement within the darkness, suggesting distant light, shifting atmosphere and the endless space beyond us.

There is something deeply grounding about looking up at the night sky. It can make everyday thoughts feel quieter and create a sense of perspective — a feeling I wanted to bring into the work.

The image developed intuitively through the monoprinting process, allowing gesture, texture and the movement of ink to shape the composition. The result is atmospheric and expressive, with subtle shifts in tone that reveal themselves gradually.

UNDER THE NIGHT SKY is a piece for those who are drawn to art that creates an atmosphere as much as an image. It brings a sense of depth and contemplation to a space, while retaining the warmth and expressive energy of a handmade original.

I imagine it sitting beautifully in a calm, thoughtfully considered interior — somewhere you can live with it, return to it and discover something different each time you look.
