WHEN WE USED TO PLAY is about childhood — the freedom of it, the imagination, and those seemingly ordinary moments that somehow stay with us for years.

I think most of us carry fragments of childhood with us: running outside until it got dark, making up games, getting completely lost in play, or simply being absorbed in a moment without thinking about what came next.

I wanted to capture that feeling of freedom and possibility, rather than illustrate a particular memory. The work developed through expressive marks, layers and movement, allowing the composition to build intuitively and retain the energy and spontaneity of play.

There is a sense of movement throughout the piece, but also something tender and nostalgic. It reminds me that joy doesn't always have to be complicated — sometimes it is simply the freedom to play, explore and lose yourself in the moment.

Created using traditional monoprint techniques, the artwork has been shaped by gesture, pressure and the unpredictable nature of the printing process. The resulting textures and marks give the piece a sense of immediacy and life.

WHEN WE USED TO PLAY is for those who are drawn to art that evokes a feeling and brings something personal into a space. It is joyful without being overly sweet, nostalgic without being sentimental.
