BY THE SEA I SAT — Original Monoprint

BY THE SEA I SAT grew from one of those simple moments that can stay with you — sitting beside the sea with nowhere to be, watching the water move and allowing your thoughts to become quieter.

There is something about the sea that always changes my sense of time. The rhythm of the water, the movement of the surface and the vastness of the horizon can make everything else feel a little less urgent.

I wanted to capture that feeling of stillness and release rather than create a literal seascape. Fluid marks and layered tonal shifts suggest the movement of water, while the quieter areas of the composition create space to pause and breathe.

The work developed intuitively through the monoprinting process, allowing the movement of ink, gesture and pressure to shape the image. I love the balance between control and spontaneity — the way something unexpected can happen within the process and become an important part of the work.

For me, BY THE SEA I SAT is about slowing down, finding perspective and giving yourself permission to simply be.

An expressive original artwork for those who want their surroundings to feel personal, calming and full of character. It would bring a sense of quiet movement and atmosphere to a thoughtfully considered interior.
