THE POPLAR TREE — Original Monoprint

THE POPLAR TREE grew from my fascination with the quiet presence of trees — the way they can stand completely still while everything around them is moving.

I was drawn to the tall, rhythmic form of the poplar and the sense of movement created by its branches and slender silhouette. Rather than trying to depict the tree literally, I wanted to capture its character and energy through colour, layered marks and spontaneous gestures.

The work developed intuitively through the monoprinting process, allowing the ink, texture and movement of each mark to become part of the final composition. There is a balance between structure and freedom here — something I often look for in my work.

For me, THE POPLAR TREE is about finding beauty in simplicity and noticing the quiet moments in nature. It has a calm presence, but the expressive marks give it enough energy to hold its own within a space.

Created for those who are drawn to original art with personality and a sense of connection, rather than mass-produced decoration. It would sit beautifully within a considered contemporary home, a characterful country interior, a studio or a thoughtfully curated hospitality space.
